Digital Arrest: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (October 27) warned the countrymen about the ‘Digital Arrest’ fraud and said that no government agency asks for money by threatening over the phone. He said that people involved in such fraud try to scare people by posing as police, CBI, RBI or narcotics officers.
In the 115th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Modi explained in detail how ‘digital arrest’ fraud is done. He said, “The first step in this is to collect your personal information. The second step is to create an environment of fear and the third is the pressure of time. People become so scared that they lose the power to think and understand. All age groups are victims of this type of fraud. And many people from all sections of the society have lost their hard-earned money.
Be careful, record phone calls
Prime Minister Modi urged citizens not to panic if anyone receives such a call. He said, “There are three steps to digital security in such cases – stop, think and act. If possible, take screenshots and recording. No government agency makes such threats over phone or demands money.” Does.”
The Prime Minister has asked the public to call the National Cyber Helpline 1930 to stop such frauds and advised to lodge a report with the police. He said that such cases should be recorded and informed to the police and cyber security agencies.
‘Digital arrest’ fraud emerging across the country
In recent months, cases of ‘digital arrest’ have increased rapidly in India. Last month, cyber criminals defrauded Vardhaman Group Chairman SP Oswal of Rs 7 crore by taking him into ‘digital custody’. The criminals, posing as CBI officers, kept him under ‘digital surveillance’ through Skype for two days and accused him of money laundering.
