West Bengal Doctor Rape-Murder Case: The Congress and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have come face to face over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. On Sunday (August 18, 2024), three days after the “Kathua to Kolkata” remark made by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, the TMC attacked the Congress over the Karnataka CM issue.
Most of the parties in the India Block have supported the steps taken by the government led by CM Mamata Banerjee demanding justice in this case. However, Rahul Gandhi said that instead of providing justice to the victim, efforts are being made to save the accused. Not only this, Bengal Congress has also come out on the streets in protest.
TMC said- Rahul made the comment without knowing
After Congress raised questions in this matter, TMC is now attacking Congress on the issue of Karnataka. Sharing an article on Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot giving permission to prosecute CM Siddaramaiah in the alleged land allotment scam, TMC’s former Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh wrote on Twitter, “So, Rahul Gandhi ji, will you ask your CM to resign? This is a big allegation of corruption. Without knowing the correct information about the incident in West Bengal, without knowing the steps taken by Mamata Banerjee, you commented on social media. Now, will you please take action against your CM?”
What did Rahul Gandhi say?
On Thursday, Rahul had said on Twitter, “I stand with the victim’s family in this unbearable pain. They should get justice at all costs and the culprits should be punished in such a way that it is set as an example in society. Trying to save the accused instead of getting justice for the victim raises serious questions on the hospital and the local administration.”
