Jivitputrika Vrat 2024: Jitiya Vrat is observed every year on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. Just like Chhath Puja, in Jivitputrika fast also the tradition of Nahai Khay, Kharna is followed. Arghya is offered to the rising and setting sun.

This fast is mainly observed in some areas of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. Mothers observe Nirjala fast for their children and worship Lord Jimutvahan with rituals. Know when Jitiya fast will be observed on 24th or 25th September.

According to the Panchang, the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month will start on 24 September 2024 at 12.38 pm and will end on 25 September 2024 at 12.10 pm.

  • Fast worship – 04.43 PM – 06.14 PM

How is Jitiya Vrat observed? (Jitiya Vrat Kaise kare)

  • Jitiya fast is considered as difficult as Chhath. On the first day of this fast, women have to take a bath before sunrise and the puja is started after the bath.
  • After the puja, women eat food and then observe a waterless fast for the whole day. They worship Jimutvahan. Then the fast is broken.

Method of worship of Jitiya fast (Jitiya Vrat Puja Vidhi)

  • On the day of Jivitputrika Vrat, after taking a bath in the morning, women clean the place of worship by coating it with cow dung during Pradosh Kaal.
  • After this, a small pond is made there and a branch of Pakkad is erected near this pond. Now the idol of Jimutvaahan made of Kusha is placed in the water of the pond and it is worshipped with incense, lamp, rice, roli and flowers etc.
  • In this fast, women also make idols of eagle and jackal from clay and cow dung. After applying vermilion on the forehead of these idols, the story of Jivitputrika fast is heard and then Parana is done.
