Manipur Violence: Union Home Minister Amit Shah held an important meeting with officials of security agencies in the capital Delhi on Monday (18 November 2024) regarding the ongoing insecurity situation in Manipur. In this meeting, many important decisions were taken regarding the deployment of central paramilitary forces in Manipur, so that the process of restoring peace in the state can be expedited.
According to sources, it was decided in the meeting that 50 additional companies will be deployed to handle the situation in Manipur. A total of 5000 soldiers will be included in these 50 companies. With this deployment, security will be strengthened in Manipur. Till now the total number of central paramilitary forces in Manipur has increased to 27000. This is likely to speed up the process of restoring peace in the state.
Restoring peace has top priority
Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed the officials to give top priority to the process of restoring peace in Manipur. He asked all the agencies to ensure that the situation in the state returns to normal soon. Earlier, the Union Home Ministry had implemented AFSPA on 6 police station areas of Manipur.
However, the Manipur government had written a letter to the Central Government in this regard after the disturbed area was imposed on the state. It was said that the Central Government should review this decision.
Why did fresh flames of violence arise?
Violence spread after bodies of missing women and children were found in a relief camp in Manipur. During this violence, the mob vandalized and set fire to the houses of six MLAs, including the son-in-law of Chief Minister Biren Singh. Apart from this, two churches and three houses were also burnt to ashes. Women and children were reportedly killed by the militants. On November 11, 2024, 10 Kuki militants were killed in an encounter with the CRPF. After the attack by militants, no trace of an elderly woman, her two daughters and three minor grandchildren could be found.
